Daisy Cheese has endured the trip, we've left her over night, snuck her into countless hotels, some nights have been really cold, she almost died from a respiratory infection where she was given an IV for fluids and antibiotics. But she's tough and got through it all. Tumors are extremely common in rats, which she got several months ago. Evidently rats are designed to have babies and if they don't the estrogen has no where to go, and often causes the tumors. For those of you that have never owned a rat you may not be aware of the love for rats by their owners, I'm not just talking about us, because we love that little long tailed hair ball, but vets and other rat owners are really smitten. Jen took Daisy into see a local vet and he said he'd remove the tumors for not a lot of money, because he really likes rats. At the time they were the size of two golf balls. Two days ago, she had the surgery and has nearly fully recovered... once again proven she is a tough rodent. When we picked her up, the Doctor said, in a really deadpan voice, "yeah, we almost lost her, her heart stopped beating and we had to resuscitate her". He then motioned with his hands and fingers how he pumped her little chest and brought her back. He said again in a really matter-of-fact voice, "she just came right back". She was sewed up with 26 staples.
She is herself again, running all over the cage. She gets a daily dose of antibiotics and a pain medication. Ha, who knew we'd be doing all this to save our rat.
